Blakehurst Dental – Performing smile upgrades

It is a truth universally acknowledged that everything fun leaves a mark, and particularly on your teeth. Coffee, wine and chocolate are all tough on your teeth, and can lead to staining and cavities. The good news is that modern dental technologies mean there are many excellent options to improve, whiten or straighten your smile. At Blakehurst Dental we offer a comprehensive range of aesthetic treatment options and it is our favourite part of the job.

ZOOM WHITENING

  • Zoom professional teeth whitening, offers a quick, safe and convenient option to brighten your smile in as little as 60mins

  • Utilising Philips Zoom Blue LED light-accelerated technology and whitening gel, only available to dental professionals, in combination with enamel protection, we can improve the lustre whilst reducing the sensitivity of your teeth

What to expect:

  • Teeth will be thoroughly cleaned before a mould is taken of your mouth; this will be used to create custom made trays to continue your bleaching at home

  • Next teeth are isolated with all soft tissue retracted and covered to protect from any potential chemical burn

  • The bleach is applied tooth by tooth, by the dentist and activated with a blue light for 15mins, this step will be repeated 3-4 times or until desired shade is achieved

What to avoid:

  • In the 24 hrs post treatment your teeth are more porous and susceptible to up-take of stain, this may make your teeth feel more sensitive than usual.

  • It is important to avoid any deeply pigmented foods, like beetroot or curries.

  • Using the remineralising products issued will help to rehydrate your teeth and prevent any further sensitivity

ALIGN, BLEACH, BOND

  • The aim of dentistry today is to mimic what nature has already given us. Through the natural positioning of teeth resulting in grinding or the natural wear and tear, teeth can be damaged affecting your confidence to smile.

  • One of our most commonly utilised treatments to achieve a beautiful natural smile is via alignment through the use of digitally planned 3D aligner systems, such as Invisalign

  • Once treatment has finished, we like to brighten teeth using Zoom whitening, as discussed above

  • The final touches are achieved using additive cosmetic bonding.

What to expect with edge bonding:

  •  Adding composite resin to the edges of your teeth can help to perfectly shape your smile

  • Following a digital scan and digital smile design, a 3D model is printed and used as a guide to shape your teeth

  • During this appointment the teeth are isolated and material is added directly to the edge of your teeth following strict adhesive bonding protocols

  • The teeth are then polished and your smile is complete in a minimally invasive manner

PORCELAIN VENEERS

  • Porcelain veneers are an excellent aesthetic option to improve the shape, colour, contour, and youthfulness of your smile. We enjoy nothing more than creating beautiful new smiles that will have you smiling from ear to ear.

  • Whilst maintaining the bulk of your natural tooth structure the outer face of the tooth is carefully prepared to create enough space to place a thin covering of porcelain over the facial surface, concealing all unwanted markings underneath.

What to expect – 3 appointments:

  • At the first appointment: We will discuss all your smile goals and expectations, the imperfections that you don’t like and what you would like to achieve with your smile make-over. This case discussion will be accompanied by photographs and a 3D scan of your teeth. These records will be sent to one of our amazing labs and a digital design will be produced for your approval prior to tooth preparation.

  • At the second appointment: utilising the trial smile in the mouth, we will minimally prepare your teeth leaving you with temporary veneers that mimic the final restorations. This gives you a good idea of how the teeth will look and feel. These temporaries are worn for two weeks whilst each individual veneer is hand crafted in the lab.

  • At the third appointment: the porcelain veneers are tired-into the mouth where together we assess the fit, colour, contour, shape, length of the teeth and then cemented in place with a thin layer of dental adhesive cement.

DENTAL CROWNS

Occasionally, a tooth is so weakened structurally that we need to place a full crown around the tooth to strength and restore the tooth to function. Modern materials and improvements in their strength and aesthetic properties make them an excellent long-term option for damaged and weakened teeth; particularly following a root canal procedure when your tooth is more at risk of fracture.

What to expect:

This procedure is carried out over two appointments.

  • At the first appointment: the tooth is prepared as conservatively as possible, before a digital impression is taken and a temporary crown is made to cover the tooth for a period of two weeks

  • At the second appointment: the dental crown is fitted precisely into place with special dental adhesive that will restore the tooth to its natural function and aesthetics.

DENTAL BRIDGE

  • If, for a particular reason an implant is not an option, a dental bridge provides an excellent solution to a missing tooth

  • A bridge is a permanent fixture to replace one or more missing teeth.

  • It is anchored to the adjacent natural tooth or teeth to bridge the gap where a tooth or teeth are missing.

  • It also prevents the natural teeth from drifting or tipping into the space of the extracted tooth should a tooth be lost.

  • Each bridge will be individually handcrafted by our dental technician and will sit comfortably with your bite providing an excellent aesthetic result for a missing tooth.
