Blakehurst Dental – When you can’t handle the tooth

Sadly, not all teeth can be saved. However, a dental implant can provide you with the perfect solution to a gap in your smile and is considered the gold-standard for a single tooth replacement.

Aside from the obvious benefits of replacing a lost tooth for improved aesthetics, it is also essential to replace lost teeth for ongoing support of the jaw and to protect the surrounding teeth against damage.

Dental implants are specifically designed to be compatible with oral bone. An implant is placed into the bone surgically by one of Sydney’s most experienced periodontal specialists. Following integration of the implant and what replicates the root of the tooth, a custom-made ceramic tooth is attached. Providing the perfect replication of a tooth that once previously was there.

What to expect:

The dental implant journey will vary from person to person and is always planned following detailed discussions with your dentist prior to any treatment being carried out.

In general, there are two aspects to the implant procedure following tooth extraction.

Surgical Phase of treatment (3 – 6months):

Following removal of the damaged tooth- we allow for 3 months of healing at the extraction site. A specialist surgeon, once happy with the underlying bone, will place the implant. This will then be left under the gum for 3 months to integrate and new bone to grow around the implant. Once the specialist is happy the implant is stable, we will commence the restorative phase of treatment.

Restorative phase:

Digital scans of the mouth and the implant are taken, the final restoration is designed digitally and custom made by a talented local ceramist dental technician. This is then fixed to the implant and restores the tooth into the bite.
