Blakehurst Dental – Where teeth get a second chance

Broken, damaged or weakened teeth mean that sometimes your smile might need a bit of CPR. Modern dental techniques have given us a diverse range of treatment options for restoring teeth. Depending on the nature and scope of the issue and the health of the remaining tooth structure, we will choose the most aesthetically pleasing material with the best longevity.

WHITE FILLINGS

Smaller cavities or chipped teeth are restored with tooth-coloured composite resin. During the appointment, the dentist will remove the damaged, diseased part of the tooth and mould this material before setting it into place. In most cases, no one will ever notice a difference in your smile.

CERAMIC INLAYS/ONLAYS

In the case of more significant damage, such as fracturing the cusp off a tooth, cracks or significant tooth loss a stronger ceramic material is regularly used. Ceramic is often required when significant reconstruction of the tooth is required and provides an excellent replication of your natural tooth in terms of aesthetics and strength.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

This procedure will be carried out over two appointments.

Appointment 1: 60 – 90 mins

Initially, we will prepare your tooth under a rubber dam (a surgical drape for your tooth). This removes previously weakened dental materials such as amalgam or composites, cleans and reinforces the remainder to the tooth. Utilising 3D digital scanning technology, the tooth is then scanned and sent to our local ceramicist for custom fabrication.

Appointment 2: 30 mins

Upon your return, the custom-made ceramic will be bonded onto your tooth to replicate the natural aesthetic and strength of what was once previously there. This provides an excellent, minimally-invasive long-term solution for your broken and weakened tooth.
